Boost your metabolic rate with these 10 scientifically proven methods

1. Don't skip breakfast

Skipping breakfast is a real no-no in the world of metabolism. Hitting that snooze button in favour of getting up to grab a quick bite before starting the day should be avoided. Studies show that breakfast really kick starts the metabolism. No appetite first thing? Snack on something small, like a granola fruit pot. Just skip that Mcdonalds drive through.

2. Drink green tea

This stuff packs a serious antioxidant-punch, and has been found to help increase metabolism. With zero calories and a plethora of healthy benefits, sipping on more than 1 mug a day is a no brainer. With practice, you’ll get used to the taste.

3. Hit the weights

Pumping iron isn’t everyone’s first choice when it comes to exercising, but weight training can have a dramatic effect on metabolic rate. Even a small increase in muscle mass will increase resting metabolic rate dramatically. Plus, you’ll look awesome in your Speedos. Which way is the beach?

4. Drink water (LOTS)

We’ve all heard of the benefits of drinking at least 8 glasses (2 litres) of water a day, but did you know it helps speed up your metabolism? Water is also calorie free and can stave off hunger to prevent snacking in between meals.

5. Make it SPICY!

Tocapsaicin, a chemical found in chilli peppers adds a great fiery kick to food adn could help boost metabolism, too. Making spicy food is also a true sign of MANLINESS (Aroo). Try adding a pinch (or a spoonful) of chilli powder to your food when cooking for a metabolism boosting taste sensation.

6. HIIT it

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is a fantastic exercise style for ramping up the metabolism. Not only will it incinerate body fat, it will also raise the bodies metabolism for up to 48hrs after exercising. EPIC!

7. Eat wisely

Certain foods like tuna and grapefruit have been shown to speed up metabolic rate. Packing in protein has also shown to boost metabolism. Put some thought into your daily meals and include protein rich foods and other metabolism boosting snacks. If you’re packing fish, don’t forget the breath mints!

8. Coffee is your (best) friend

A cup of coffee (or the caffeine in it) is absorbed into the blood stream very quickly, speeding up the heart rate and can provide a metabolic boost for up to 3 hours after drinking. Now you have an excuse to have more than 1 cup, just don’t go overboard.

9. Laugh more (& harder)

Scientists have found that as little as 10 minutes of laughter per day can help burn energy. Being happy just got even better. Put on your favourite comedy show and laugh your socks (or pants) off. It’s infectious too, so you can help others burn calories (Your such a nice guy)!

10. Sleep (as if you need an excuse)!

Researchers have found a link between metabolism and sleep, and not getting enough of it may seriously slow metabolism. Skip the all night parties and get to bed at a reasonable hour waking up energised and ready for that all important breakfast.
