‘Mall Walking’ is the new UAE fitness trend you MUST try this summer

GET OUT OF THE HEAT & LOSE WEIGHT WHILE WALKING YOUR FAVORITE UAE MALL.

It’s summer time in the UAE and you might think that’s an excuse to stop your daily walk. Lucky the UAE is home to some of the largest malls in the world. You can get in a lot of exercise by walking around the large malls in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. You can walk on your lunch breaks, after work, or whenever it suits your schedule – all in air-conditioned comfort.

You can also join a mall-walking program if one is available at the desired mall(s) that you frequent. Doing regular physical activity is key to your overall health, and walking is a great way to stay active when the summer heat hits. Walking for as little as 30 minutes per day will reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, Type 2 Diabetes, depression, and much more!

It’s now summer time in the UAE, which means it’s peak season for Mall Walking in the major malls in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Mall Walking Tips

  • Find out when the mall entrance doors and bathrooms are open to the public
  • Determine the hours of operation for the mall walking program
  • To be on the safe side, determine when the mall security staff are working to coincide with your mall walking
  • Enjoy the scenery around you
  • Set personal goals for each time you do your walk
  • Most of all, have fun!

We’ve also included the ‘mall app’ for each mall (if available) to help you plan your route and to help you find your way in case you get lost. It can be quite a maze in some malls and you don’t want it to turn into a marathon walk!

IBN Battuta Mall

Location: Sheikh Zayed Rd, Dubai
Website: http://www.ibnbattutamall.com/
Mall Walking Distance: 1.3km
Mall App: http://apple.co/1ImJgeP

Are you feeling guilty after eating a McDonald’s Cheeseburger? Well, you might feel that way, but you can burn it off brisk walking in one of the huge UAE malls in less than 45 minutes.

That’s right! A McDonald’s Cheeseburger is 260 calories, and brisk walking in a mall will burn everything off in just under 45 minutes for the average person.

The next time you head over to the IBN Battuta Mall in Dubai, walk around the mall twice. Not only will you have burned off that cheeseburger, but also you would have just walked 2.6 km. Adding to that, you will get to explore the world’s largest themed shopping mall that was built in memory of the great Arab traveler and adventurer, Ibn Battuta. Ibn traveled across Andalusia, Tunisia, Egypt, Persia, India, and China: all of these countries reflected in the architecture within the six courts around the mall.

Where are some other malls in the UAE? What are some interesting facts related to ‘mall walking’ within them?

The Mall of the Emirates is a multi-level shopping mall that really sticks to their tagline: “shopping is just the beginning.” This great mall will allow you to loop around on both levels in just under 30 minutes at a brisk walk. That’s equivalent to the average person slowly walking up a flight of stairs for almost 10 minutes.

Yas Mall

Mall Walking Distance: Under 1km
Mall App: Coming Soon!

Yas Mall is on Yas Island, and it opened in 2014. It is a great scenic and spacious mall, where you can do a brisk walk around it within 30 minutes. Your bright new shoes and outfit will blend right into this very modern mall, which is located in between the Ferrari dealership and IKEA.

Abu Dhabi Mall

Location: Abu Dhabi

This mall is located right in the heart of Abu Dhabi. It isn’t the biggest mall; however, you can still get a great workout session done by walking all around it. Summary:

Now that you know that you can stay cool indoors and get in some amazing exercise either alone or with other ‘mall walkers’, get your shoes ready and join in on the fun. Brisk walking is not only a great way to exercise and lose weight, but it is also a great way to explore the malls around your city. It is a great alternative to working out at a gym or outdoors.
