5 Dubai Based Running Routes you need to know

Get off the treadmill and hit the roads with these 5 great running routes

Always when running in Dubai, safety is paramount. These routes have been devised with that in mind. The summer is drawing to a close, but the weather is always HOT, so stay hydrated and always wear sensible attire. When running after last light wear reflective gear or Hi Vis colours to remain seen.

Route 1: JLT Lake Run

Location: JLT

Distance: 2.3 Miles/3.3km

RUNNING STANDARD: Novice

BRIEF ROUTE DESCRIPTION:
This is an easy route around the lakes in JLT. The run is a mixture of pavement and prepared running paths. Traffic can be fairly busy and flows in a clockwise direction around the JLT one way system. Nutrition Souq’s advice is to run anti-clockwise so you can see on coming traffic which is important when crossing roads at cluster entrances/exits. Do multiple loops for a more challenging run.

Route 3: Jumeirah Beach Road

Location: Jumeirah

Distance: 17.4 miles/28 km

RUNNING STANDARD: Advanced

BRIEF ROUTE DESCRIPTION:
This is a serious route for serious runners, and a real beauty if you’re training for the Dubai Standard Chartered Marathon. The start and finish are in the same place, so you can either start at Wild Wadi Water Park, or at 2nd of December St, Al Hudaiba. It’s 90% paved with the odd road crossing, but nothing too taxing. Nutrition Souq’s advice is to make sure you are suitably kitted out, wear sun screen, are hydrated, and have eaten sufficiently before the run. Carry some high energy gels and water if needed. If carrying food and drink isn’t your thing, take a few dirhams in the pocket of your running shorts for emergencies.

Nutrition Souq’s top GPS phone App recommendations (for tracking performance):

RunKeeper:

For a free app, it has some great features which include ways to track runs/jogs, checking your pace, and the recording of stats to show how you’re improving. RunKeeper also stores your stats on their website so you can check it out from anywhere. Very handy.

Endomondo:

With this app it's easy to track your duration, distance, and speed. You can also create routes, challenge your times, and challenge friends who live in your neighbourhood. You can get an audio coach, track hydration, send friends pep talks, and plenty more. One of the cooler features is the ability to see other people's times on routes and test it against your own. This is a super social app for those who like to challenge others and be part of a larger running community of running enthusiasts.

Nike + Running App:

Nike+ Running App provides all the stats, history, and sharing capabilities you could ask for. Nutrition Souq’s favourite feature is the ‘powersong’ to help you finish off your run in style and with high energy. Nike+ works with or without any of the Nike accessories as well.

MapMyRun:

MapMyRun is highly accurate. It works superbly for tracking distance, calories, elevation, and nutrition. The nutritional info is what makes MapMyRun stand out from the crowd. Because of this apps accuracy and additional features this is Nutrition Souq’s pick of the bunch.
