Superfood Recipes To Leave You Feeling Awesome Inside

What exactly are superfoods? Superfoods are nutrient powerhouses that cram in large doses of antioxidants, polyphenols, vitamins, and minerals. Eating them may reduce the risk of chronic disease, and prolong life, and people who eat more of them are healthier and thinner than those who don't.


CITRUS HEMP SALAD DRESSING

Hemp is a great source of omega-3 fats and vitamin E while lime and orange juices pack in a whole lot of antioxidants. This is a delicious low calorie, low sugar salad dressing to spruce up your salads.

Ingredients:

  1. 1 tbsp olive oil
  2. 2 tbsp raw shelled hemp seeds
  3. 1 tsp minced garlic
  4. 1/4 cup of orange juice
  5. 1/4 cup of lime juice
  6. Salt and pepper to taste

Recipe:

  1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl
  2. Season with salt and pepper
  3. Toss with salad
 

MASHED AVOCADO AND SARDINE TOAST

Nothing makes you more productive than a protein-(healthy)fat filled breakfast. This mixture of Avo and Sardine is insanely healthy and tastes ridiculously good.

Ingredients:

  1. 1/2 ripe avocado
  2. 2 slices whole grain seeded toast
  3. 2 whole sardines - remove the head, tails, and bones (can also be canned)
  4. lemon juice (1/2 lemon)
  5. Salt and pepper (to taste)

Recipe:

  1. Mash together the sardines and avocado
  2. Cook toast (to your liking)
  3. Spread mashed mixture on the toast
  4. Season lightly with salt and pepper
  5. Drizzle lemon juice on top
 

PEANUT BETTER AND APPLE SANDWICH

Peanut butter is a great source of healthy fats and protein, but plain old peanut butter on bread can get boring over time. Add some texture and additional nutrients to your sandwich with some crunchy apple.

Ingredients:

  1. 2 slices of whole wheat bread
  2. 1 tbsp of peanut butter
  3. 1 small apple - cored, and sliced

Recipe:

  1. Spread the peanut butter on one slice of bread
  2. Top with the sliced apple
  3. Top with other slice of bread
  4. ENJOY!
 

TURMERIC MILK

Turmeric is a well-known aspirin substitute. It also has a reputation of fighting colds and coughs. As if that wasn’t enough, it also strengthens the immune system. Here is a simple healthy recipe so you can start incorporating this SUPER superfood.

Ingredients:

  1. 1 tsp of turmeric powder
  2. 220 ml of milk
  3. Honey or sugar, to taste
  4. Freshly ground black pepper (if desired)

Recipe:

  1. Add the turmeric powder, sugar or honey and milk to a pan
  2. Warm it gently for 10 – 15 minutes on a low-medium heat
  3. Add the black pepper to the milk (to taste)
  4. Remove from the heat and allow to coo for a few minutes before drinking (it's best served warm)
  5. Place in your favourite (heat proof) glass or mug and curl up on the sofa with this miracle potion!
 

PUMPKIN SPICE OATMEAL

Pumpkins can boost your vision, lower blood pressure, and help you sleep better. Throw some oatmeal, cinnamon, and milk in the mix, and you have a great superfood breakfast recipe.

Ingredients:

  1. 1 and 1/2 cups of milk
  2. 3/4 cup of rolled oats
  3. 2 tbsp of brown sugar
  4. 1 tsp of pumpkin pie spice
  5. 1/4 cup sliced pumpkin (canned)
  6. 2 tsp of cinnamon
  7. 1/4 tsp of salt (if desired)

Recipe:

  1. Warm milk over medium heat
  2. Stir in all the ingredients except the pumpkin
  3. Cover the pot and reduce heat to low-medium, stir occasionally
  4. After 3 minutes, stir the pumpkin pieces into the mixture
  5. Cook for a further 2 minutes or until pumpkin is warmed through
