What are the benefits of fitness classes?

Our fitness classes will help you improve in all fitness parameters: Cardiovascular Endurance, Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance, Flexibility, Balance, Agility, Speed and Power. All classes address different fitness components but will have at least 2 highlighted focuses. For example, Body Pump’s main focus is on Muscular strength and Muscular endurance while Yoga focuses on Muscular Strength and Flexibility.

Who are fitness classes for?

Our fitness classes are for anyone with personal goals, it can range from health or fitness goals to simply having some time out or “me time” from one’s daily routine. For those who have injuries or special needs, not all classes may be suitable. It will depend on physical capability. There will always be a higher or lower option for any exercise and our instructors are well equipped to give those options.

What would you tell someone that has never attended a class?

You’ll never know until you try it yourself. It can take at least 3 – 5 classes for a person to learn and appreciate movement patterns. Trying out classes is a good way to discover yourself, what you can do with your current fitness level and which areas of fitness you need improvement in.

Cycling classes in all their forms are really taking off. The new recreational cycling tracks, particularly in Dubai, have opened the desert up for sport and fitness. Our RPM and indoor cycling classes are full of happy, engaged people getting fitter and healthier by the minute. We do classes in the desert too. Our bootcamps have always had a great following, but that might be down to the magicians who take this class at optimalFITNESS!

What are the benefits of fitness classes?

Group fitness classes are so much fun! You get spoilt for options and get to meet like- minded people with similar fitness goals. When you attend classes regularly, it’s very possible to forge friendships with your “classmates” and spruce up your social life. You will find that regular attendees of the classes eventually provide a great support group for you to stick to your fitness goals. Based on my personal experience, I found myself inspired by group exercise teachers/ yogis to pursue my own wellness/fitness teaching practice.

Who are fitness classes for?

Fitness classes are for everyone who do not have any major injuries and have relative body awareness.

What would you tell someone that has never attended a class?

Come to class few minutes early. This will give you time to set yourself up for the class and talk to people who might be regulars or newbies like you. Most of the time the teachers will be there early, take that opportunity to speak with them, tell them it’s your first class, ask questions and mention if you have any injuries or special requirements.

During class, remember that everyone’s body is different. Focus on yours, making sure that you listen to your body. Pay attention to your form from the very beginning making sure you stick to it, even if it means lessening the intensity of the exercise. Always move with awareness. It’s okay to take a break if you really need it. Stay hydrated. Keep a healthy sense of humour if you make mistakes, and make sure you have fun.

After the class, don’t be shy to ask the teacher any questions regarding the class.

What is the current trend in fitness classes in the UAE?

At the moment, I feel that the trend is gearing towards body weight exercises and functional body movement and yoga and Pilates fall within this remit. HIIT, CrossFit and bootcamps are definitely still strong in the fitness scene here.

Since we introduced our advanced (RTR) class twice a week, we have also had a great turn out from members that have been with us a while now and are looking to push their training to the next level.
We also run partner workouts every Thursday which is great fun for everyone to finish up the week.

I would say they’re for everyone. If you’re a beginner or someone who’s been training for a while, it’s still up to you how much you push yourself. Some people prefer to train alone with a personal trainer and some people prefer being in a group. You have to find what works best for you.

Just jump in and try. Forget about the others, everyone started at some point and don’t compare yourself to the other people in class.

A lot of high intensity/circuit training is very popular for weight loss and staying in shape.
